St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt 2017 -

On Thursday, March 16th the Teen Council hosted a scavenger hunt inside and around the SR Library. About 50 library patrons joined us in making fun Leprechaun hats, face painting, learning cool and little-known facts about St. Patrick's Day, and best of all - getting candy and prizes! Kids received a 'passport' at the beginning of the hunt and got clues from one station to the next, earning candy and shamrock stickers along the way. When they found all 9 hidden leprechauns and got stickers from them, they got more candy and prizes when they reached the rainbow (and pot of prizes) at the end!

On Thursday, February 9th, we had over 50 library patrons join the Teen Council and the Chocolate Science Program for a lesson on how chocolate is made - and what types taste the best! 8 different Valentine's Day themed crafts accompanied the presentation.

We had lots of crafts and candy at this event!
From infinity-loop-hearts to candy-carrier pouches to cute own cards there was a craft for everyone!

And the chocolate demo and samples were amazing!

From 3-4:30 on Wednesday December 15th, we had over 60 library patrons join the Teen Council for fun winter crafts! Tasty miniature 'gingerbread houses' were built, while others played dreidel to test their luck. Hot chocolate and popcorn were served while a festive Christmas movie played in the background. Christmas tree crafts, bell ornaments, snowman bowling, Winter bingo, and Christmas cards donated to charity were all available for patrons to enjoy.

The Haunted Library 2016 -

Once again we had a great turnout for our second annual Haunted Library! Over 200 patrons joined us for a spooky after-hours tours of the library on the evening of Friday October 28th, from 7-9 pm. While groups were waiting for their tours, they munched on goodies as they watched a spooky movie. When their time came, groups of 4-7 were led through the library to encounter a mystic Voodoo fortune teller who gave tarot card readings. Groups then journeyed onward to the dark forest of the main library, where patrons encountered vampires, witches, zombies, grave diggers, mad scientists and more! The Teen Council coordinated with library staff for the event's success. We thank all that attended or helped out, and hope to see everyone back again next year!

"Aero Expo" 2016 -

On May 19th, from 3-5 pm, the Teen Council hosted a paper airplane expo, with tutorials on how to make the best flying paper airplanes based on the aerodynamics of the shape, paper weight, and design. Airplanes made from participants were judged on the airplane's design, air time, distance traveled, and "glide style." Candy was earned depending on how well the participants airplanes performed!

Egg Hunt 2016 -

On the evening of March 22nd, 2016, over 120 patrons came to the library for a fun and festive Egg Hunt. Eggs filled with sweets were strewn throughout the courtyard and library for kids (and adults) to find and enjoy! We hope to do this event again next year (with even more eggs than before!)

Science Fair Exposition 2016 -

On the evening of March 17th, the Library Teen Council Volunteers and other Central Branch Library members hosted a mock science fair. Hands-on educational science experiments and phenomenon went on around the room for patrons to enjoy and learn from.

On February 11th, children gathered to make a Valentine's themed craft - a heart shaped bag decorated with paper flowers! Free sweets were provided by the Teen Council, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it!

The Haunted Library 2015 -

On the evening of October 30th, over 150 library patrons gathered for a spooky after-hours tour of the library. Teen Council Members and Library staff worked together to set up a maze within the library, complete with roaming zombies, screamers, witches, mad scientists, strobe lights, spiderwebs, squishing body parts, fog, and much more! Library patrons gathered in small groups led by a member of the library staff to embark on the dark tour and come out on the other end - with candy! The bake sale was a also provided courtesy of the Teen Council with suggested donations serving to be used in further Teen Council Activities. We hope to see everyone again next Halloween!
